Re:Self Taught MCSE - 2007/09/26 17:07
I've been in IT for around 6 years also, since leaving high school I wanted to concentrate on MS qualifications, but found them extremely pricy.. not just for an 18 year old uni student, but also from a companies point of view, forking out endless 400 quids for courses and exams is A LOT of money.
So, anyway, I opted for the self study path, I bought some cramsession books off the net, I forget who by, but their red with yellow writing on the front , called cramsession, or cramsession2
I found them really helpful, additionally, I harnessed the power of virtual machines. Not only does this save you money on buying physical machines and wiring etc etc, you can run a corporate network from ur laptop I recall RIS'ing a virtual machine at one point too.. that was cool!
I haven't done much 'stuff' in the last little while, and would like to get back into both networking and certifications again. this is far from a plug to only do MS stuff, but I found the MCDST stuff a good starting point, then worked up through 70-290 and some others to get to MCSA:messaging. I would like to get to MCSE, but with things changing on the MScert front, I'm not sure what the way to go is!
Anyway, to finish off this essay I think the guys @ ITIdiots are doing a great job of presenting, like Nicky said in one of the early episodes, a sometimes dry and professional topic (MCSE exam content), in a great relaxed and chilled environment, and with random appearances of Dr Shabby, I think this is one of the best podcasts on the net.
Keep up the good work guys!
