Few Questions... - 2008/08/12 12:11 First of all, I have only just found this pod cast... class gents. kept up the good work.

Anyway, this has inspired me to study for my MCSE. I have bought a cheapo server installed Proxmox (open source equivalent of VMware ESX) and have followed episodes through to 20 (yes, i have no life!)

Anyway, all going well just one problem so could use some advice. Episode 20: After setting up the my documents folder redirection, on all but one user account this worked.
But on this account (test) although you can access the serverhometestmy document share, the "my document" shortcut on the client points to local machine not the share.... I created new accounts and don't get this problem. Tried deleting this account and re-creating, still no joy. Any ideas?

More questions:-
(1) Once i deleted the 'test' account, as expected permissions did not allow me to delete this my docs home folder on the server. How do i change permissions so I can delete it?
(2) Is it ok to study for MCSE2003, or would I need to know about Server2000 in order to pass exams (and for future)?
(3) What books would you recommend (ie MS Press Core set?)

Ok so i lied, four questions not one. Sorry

Thanks so much for help and inspiration..... Now all i need to do is catch up on the other 40+ episodes... gulp..

Re:Few Questions... - 2008/08/12 14:56 Windows 2000 is not a requirement for Windows 2003, and in some ways I think you will benefit from starting fresh with Windows 2003. Depending on your timeframe you may just want to head for Windows 2008 instead. The big issue in my opinion is that lack of third party material for Windows 2008, but that may not be an issue in the near future.

As for what books - I am rather fond of this series after reading their Linux guide:
http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Server-70-290-70-291-70-2293/dp/0072223316/ref=sr_1_16?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1218570312&sr=1-16

If you plan to go for Windows 2008 - then I would reccomend these:
http://www.amazon.com/Self-Paced-Training-70-640-70-642-70-643/dp/0735625727/ref=pd_sim_b_2

For anyone upgrading from 2003- I purchased these and think they look pretty good so far:
