Final Cut Express 4 - 2008/07/17 10:44 In the Mac show about FCE4 you didn't have to render any video you could edit and play back right away. How do you do that I have FCE4 and really enjoy it but I have to render when ever I import and drop into the time line and if i edit any thing it has to be re-rendered. is there something I am missing?

Thanks

Re:Final Cut Express 4 - 2008/07/17 17:27 Dear Simon,

It sounds to me that your Real Time (RT) effects are not set correctly. Your RT settings are accessed via the 'RT' tab that appears in the very top left corner of the Sequence Panel.

Real Time effects is heavy dependent on two things:

1. the technical specification of your Mac and
2. the complexity of the edit you are trying to render in real time.

The could be a couple of problems:

1. RT Unlimited is not switched on. (I have to admit, I use Final Cut Pro, so this option might not be available on the Express version.) RT Unlimited basically means 'render the video whatever, use all computer resources to do it'. If you have this option, and if you have a powerful Mac, turn it on.

2. You Mac might not be powerful to render the preview video in the Canvas because the RT settings are too high. You need to adjust this setting accordingly.

Hopefully, this should stir you in the right direction. Please consult your FCE manual on RT and previewing the video in the canvas.

I hope this helps.
