Hackintosh - 2008/05/05 11:31 Nick, would you be up for building a cheap Hackintosh mac? I know many of my friends would love to be mac users but dont have the funds. If you guys could pull the parts together and show people how to build a cheap mac, im sure loads of people would find it useful.

What do you think?

All the best,
Sam

Re:Hackintosh - 2008/05/19 09:11 Thank god that someone replied, I was starting to lose faith! Come on guys, at least talk about this on the show. Even if you say no, just want to know that you got it!

Thanks
Sam

Re:Hackintosh - 2008/05/19 11:02 Hi there,

Well I was kinda excited at first but for me it doesn't seem to be as exact a clone as I first thought. Apparently the software updates does not function properly. I have managed to run OSX in VMWare just to see how it performed (not so good) but other than that not overly interested in OSx86.

Just my opinion really,

Nicky

Re:Hackintosh - 2008/05/27 17:55 I am currently able to run OS 10.5.2 on PC hardware. I didn't use the Hackintosh recommended hardware. As it happens I just tried it on a few of my machines, and it managed to run on one of them. I get sound, network, video (not X11 support), what more could I want...

Im not saying its great, nowhere as reliable as my MacBook Pro, but it has been very nice, and I would much rather run a slightly slow version of OS X than XP or Vista.

I have not had any trouble running software updates, and I have done all the available ones. Maybe I have been lucky.

Re:Hackintosh - 2008/05/28 14:13 I suppose 'cause I am lucky enough to own a Mac, running OSX on a PC just seems wrong!

Re:Hackintosh - 2008/05/30 18:25 It might seem wrong but not everyone can afford an imac or macbook, a £250-£300 ish hackintosh guide would be very popular in my opinion. Even if you just pull a bunch of components together and try and get a machine running.

Running osx86 under vmware is virtulisation inside virtulisation, why not try it on an actual pc. Just my two cents guys, why not have a poll or something to see if people would like to see this episode?

Thanks

Re:Hackintosh - 2008/06/26 23:53 im a college student and managed to buy a brand new one for 1,000. Just save up two to four months and you should be able to buy your own. I have installed a osx86 on my pc's a few times and one time even tried deploying one at work... the real thing is worth waiting for.... just wait for it.
