Thank you... - 2008/06/15 10:09
Dear Nick, Nicky and Shabih,
Thank you very much. I'm glad I came across your show via iTunes.
Explanation for my 'thanks';
First a bit about me; My experience with computers consists of five or so years of 'mucking around' with them in my personal time. I have no qualifications relating to the IT industry. At school, when asked of my goals, I said I wanted to become a computer programmer or a mechanic. (hmmm, a bit of a contrast between those two I know) In my mid twenties, I nearly took a loan out to enroll on an MCSE course with ADVENT... I bought a car instead and it blew up... At 30, my current age, I thought now or never... Forgive me if I delve to deep into my personal life here, got to paint the picture; One morning, after a grueling night shift in a factory, not long had I been home and there was a knock at the door. Opened the door to police officers. Who pushed me the length of a room, resulting in physical injury (reasonable force). Then I had to sit though a good session of assumption, presumption and branding. One of the assumptions being that I was claiming state benefits, despite having £10,000 of equipment/receipts in one room alone. (iMac, receipt for £4750 for MCSE course, etc) The police where looking for a previous tenant... The lacerations, no problem... The problem was, it must of effected me mentally. I had not opened my study material for well over a month, until I came across your podcasts.
I'm right at the start of ADVENT's study plan, 'CompTIA A+ Essentials', so any pointers towards study techniques etc would be appreciated. (I've been away from education since I left school)
I'll get to commenting on your shows now... The Mac Show - Mac's are great, aren't they... (I'm a relatively recent convert)
IT Idiots - I took a look at this after enjoying 'The Mac Show'. This show made me get my books out and start studying again. Good Points: You are real people, that real people can relate to. Home study students need what your 'GIVING'. Mistakes are not edited out of the shoot. i.e. forgetting to select something, etc. Relaxed approach whilst covering technical issues. Not afraid to submit a long podcast. Even when a lot of it is filled with two or three people talking of life and possibly the technology within, I'm learning from all aspects of each podcast. A+M may =Z, yet I love all the, some may say, extra parts of the equation that you guys squeeze into your podcasts.
Bad Points: No Telephone Support. (Even an '0870' would be something... )
Anyway, cheers and keep up the good work.
Yours, Gavin Beech.
