Re:replacing mac's boring bong with the first time startup video - 2008/07/23 14:12
Dear Daniel,
The 'Bong' as you call it is known as the 'Start Up' chime, and NO, it can't be changed.
If I remember right, the sound is at the ROM level of every Mac, so unless you are a computer engineer you maybe able to change it, but for plebs like us we are stuck with it.
The Start Up chime is confirmation that all the components of your Mac has passed the internal diagnostic system. This is done each and every time you turn on your Mac. If a component fails, you would here a different chime and believe me, you will know about it.
The Intro movie that you mentioned is played only once after installing a new Operating System on your Mac. But you can view it any time as it is located on your Mac. It's at:
/System/Library/CoreServices/
Right-click on 'Setup Assistant' and select Show Package Contents. Then:
/Contents/Resources/
Right-click again, Show Package Content on:
TransitionSection.bundle/Contents/Resources/
There is one .mov file, which is the movie and one .mp3 file, which is the audio.
The sound file is at a different length because the sound file continues well in to the registration part.
I hope this helps.
