Hyper-V vs VMWare - 2008/10/16 16:33
now we've had sometime with Hyper-v, just wanted to know which you prefer. are you sticking to one or the other or do you switch depending on the task?
i know nicky had server 2008 & hyper-v on his Dell server.
i moved over to Hyper-v with my home lab, and thought that it must give way better performance than VMWare. however, today i made the switch back to VMWare workstation 6.5 (on a lower spec) vista x64 host pc. VMWare seems WAAAY quicker than hyper-v. RDP seems really responsive now. weird.
also with Hyper-v there's a LOT of messing about with service packs and intergration disks. annoying when you just want to build a VM to test something quick.
i also had trouble testing sms2003 and BDD2007 with hyper-v - they really didnt like talking to other VMs.
also, nicky and all - what are you currently seeing used currently in organisations. has hyper-v got anywhere near production environments yet?
