Logon scripts podcast. - 2007/03/18 11:32 I watched the logon script podcast and notice that you put all your script parameters into one script. In the domain i administer i have always kept the scripts seperate. ie; In the Users section : a script to map drives, a script to map printers.

Is this bad practice? Should i have jsut one script run that does multiple items or is what i do ok also?
Is there any benifits to have just one script instead of 2 or 3 running when the user logs on?

Re:Logon scripts podcast. - 2007/03/18 20:21 Hi Woodster,

Its a good question really and one that doesn't really have a definitive answer. It depends on a number of things for example the size of the organisation and who is actually resposible for maintaining the scripts.

I do think, however it is a good idea to minimise on GPOs processed by the client so a separate GPO for drive maps, one of printer etc would seem a little over the top.

I recently have designed a logon script solution for two companys both of similar size around 1,500 users. One had one central logon script because one person took ownership of the script so it made sense to centralise it, this runs quickly as there is no repetitive functions in use. The other was geographically administered so there was a central logon script for a common users share, printer, and virus database check and regional ones for localised resource mapping.

So you can see iy all depends really. How big is your organisation?

Nicky

Re:Logon scripts podcast. - 2007/03/18 22:33 I too also have a similar set up as woodster in using different scripts for different things.

Re:Logon scripts podcast. - 2007/03/18 22:43 How big is your organisation?

We have over 1700 users who have access to 800 clients. Depending on the time of day i would imagine that at least 600 cleints are in constant use. I would split that ratio at 620 desktop pc's and 180 laptop users.
