ITidiots open forum > YouTube Partner

Just had a thought scanning Youtube. Nicky, Nick and the gang should use it more. Upload all their vids to YouTube and then apply to be a Youtube partner. Then Google/youtube will put ads next to their vid and within the vid and anyone that clicks on them, they get paid.

Surprised they haven't looked into this or maybe they have.

We have! We have a youtube channel but the 10 minute limit on videos is too restrictive and I cannot seem to find a way around this. I see that some members do not have this limit but I think these are old accounts.

I am not sure if this has changed but you used to sign up as a director on account signup to overcome this restriction, if you didnt you would have a standard account.

"a Director Account can offer a lot of advantages."

"Now you can convert to a Director Account without filling out an application. From your Channel Info page, click on "change channel type" and you can select "Director" as the type of account you'd like. Once you've converted to a Director Account, you'll be able to create or choose your own customised logo."

Yep, director accounts are pretty much unlimited, as long as the content is all created by you, so for ITidiots, this is perfect...

Thanks for the info, we have a Direcror account but there is still a 10 minute limit. Really annoying, I just don't think it is possible anymore. I have googled around and found many articles surrounding the 10 minute limit but as yet have found no way around it. Even an email from them stated it was not possible.

I know some people do not have this limit though, not sure how, I thnk old accounts. Maybe wrong, hopefully I am,

Cheers,

Nicky

I didnt notice this but it seems that youtube changed the directors policy for new accounts in March 2007 to max of 10mins. I am trying to find a way around this I wonder if they reward popular accounts with a upgrade.

I just found out there is a partnership program for longer videos. I belive you need a very large audience to get accepted.
perhaps if you cut your videos into sections and upload to youtube, and get listeners to subscribe you can build up enough views over time to get accepted.

and/or perhaps a special <= 10 mins part of the show could be exclusive to youtube subscribers.

Ooo replies to this. I offered to do this to see if it becomes popular but I've just put an old episode into movie maker and now can't be arsed splitting it up :)

Guess it would be easier with a better movie editing package.

there should be loads of tools out there to split videos into smaller files with a few clicks

here's a such a guide specifically for youtube

Has worked well :)

Good work.

I guess its been a long while since I uploaded to youtube. I was still under the impression it was unlimited. I guess they're running out of bandwidth and storage by letting everyone switch to director...

@jamie

Thats the point if you have a old account, which you do as you stated its been awhile, then as a director you still have over 10 mins. If you have a newer director account then its tough luck unless you can get viewing figures that could be seen to be profitable by youtube.

Having a page and just sticking adwords on it doesnt work as well as it used to, therefore, youtube has to find new ways to not only make profit but pay for the running of the site. It wouldn't suprised if there is a version of a directors account that you have to pay for in the future. I would actually welcome that i think if people have to pay there would be less rubbish on the site and it would raise the overall quality of the content.

Don't be fooled that being a YouTube Partner earns you a shed-load of money. That fat girl from northern England who does the makeup tips has had her 15 minutes of fame and still lives in a council house. :-)

"Don't be fooled that being a YouTube Partner earns you a shed-load of mone"

true and only a few ever make it , however, you get other benefits such as longer videos and been featured. Youtube is still a good way of getting exposure to potential income streams and future coverage from other mediums.

"fat girl "

Lauren Luke actually made her money selling make-up on ebay , more recently branching out into her own product range, a book deal and been on tv. Youtube was only a means of exposure as apart of marketing herself.

"still lives in a council house"

but is it a council house owned by the council? I know loads of people who brought their council houses from the council on the chaep, done them up and sold them for 400,000+. .. ... well thats down to maggy thatcher.

Also a persons home doesn't necessary reflect their wealth! for example Warren Buffett who is worth over $620 million still lives in a five-bedroom stucco house in a normal neighbourhood in Omaha.

Its worth a try if it doesn't take much effort

I still wouldn't even touch her with yours.

The Youtube idea is a good one, a great one in fact as it's a great free marketing tool. And that's what you use it for. To get exposure and possible sponsorship.

I'd like to see more of the Cram sessions for the exams. I assume they stopped as no one was interested in paying for them.

I forgot to also add that Youtube cuts out the hosting costs, although having said that, I like to download all the podcasts so they still need to be hosted :)

Bittorrent would be good for that but they need people to seed that way.

Also everyone needs to actually go to YouTube and rate the ITIdiots videos otherwise they get don't get noticed by YouTube. Lots of 5 stars and hits is normally how YouTube decide to offer you a partnership or not.

I would stick with Blip.TV, thats gonna be the next long length youtube I think...

Plus people can subscribe with an RSS feed or as a podcast (pretty much the same thing) with blip.tv...

The account I have was created nearly a year ago (I wish I had my old account still now... that was the old directors one...)

I only use it for commenting...
