Yes i use it a lot works by kernel injection theoretically you could develop this for any os. It does have some limitations though.
Sometimes ophcrack and a good set of rainbow tables is the only way.

LOL you obviously never worked in IT. I'll tell a user that next time they call for a password reset.
Anyway joey and i are into ethical hacking as you may have guessed we are members of the hak5 community (although the show seems to be less about hacking these days and geared toward noobs, and the forums full of script kiddies), although i am never really on the boards much

Ah, fair enough. Basically you guys hack people's IT systems so that you can test their security? Or are you one of the "Grey Hat" hackers?

well you can to check the work you just have done yes, however, really security consultancy is probably the top job in IT today and requires a lot of experience and knowledge. Most people go through windows admin, linux admin, network admin, cisco, checkpoint jupiter, etc etc etc etc
Most Hak5 members are ethical hackers so its a hobby, they set stuff up in their own labs and try to break it (illegal activity is condoned, as it should). However, dont forget the word "hack" means to use anything in a way that it wasnt intend to be used (it does not solely mean to break into computer systems). So they mess about with electronics, radio , robots all kinds of stuff.

Fair enough. I don't think I would personally have the time or patience to have to sit there, set up a lab and then break it.
But, then again its a hobby for you, like Flight Sim / Aviation is a hobby for me (www.flybia.cz.cc)

Then IT isn't for you because that basically thats what you do when revising towards certification and to be honest it is the best way to learn.

Nope, I agree IT probably isn't for me as a career. More as a hobby so I don't have to pay someone or take it to PC world (where they poke a screwdriver at it and say there is no problems any more, it works and charge you a lovely £50 for the pleasure) to get it fixed.

For the times you need to get into the local admin account and have forgotten the password.
Works great.
