ITidiots open forum > Better stop smoking if you want your apple fixed
Ha! another reason to stay pc...
I could reccommend: cent os, opensuse and ubuntu over mac os x...
Nicky, you'd better stop smoking...
I knew a guy who smoked a lot and his keyboard was full of ash so I tipped it upside down and all of it came out in a big heap. He stopped smoking after that...
There are already plenty carcinogenics on the PCB from the manufacturing processes and of course the substances used to make components!
WOAH! I guess they used the magazine to put it out, but how did that happen???
And is that one of the new mac books? Edit: just looked at the full url of that link and it says "2007" so I guess not the new mac books. But still! Does anyone remember the exploding dell laptop batteries?
apple had exploding batteries as well, all the manufactures effected used the same supplier, had something to do with sony if i recall.
Yer, I heard about that...
Dell, Sony, Apple, HP all used the same/similar Sony batteries. I think it was because the batteries themselves need a chip to determine when the battery is out of charge and when it is full and the chips in the batteries sony was producing at the time were faulty or something like that.
Same with the 1st Gen iPod Nanos, the batteries exploded there as well...
overcharging cause copious amounts of hydrogen and we all know what happened to the Hindenburg (well if you know your history that is)
I take it that was the huge blimp that was filled with hydrogen...
I am not stirring or anything and this will be the last mention, but I thought we were going to have some ITidiots episodes this week / at least an unwatchable... now I won't mention it again...
I am not stirring or anything and this will be the last mention, but weren't you going to change your ways ?... now I won't mention it again...
I know, which is why I stated the last mention, I was just wondering where they were... (but if they are busy, no pressure guys!)
Oh well, back on topic: the only Apple product I will buy is an iPod. I am thinking about getting that new Motorola Android 2 phone...
was that last mention or last last last last last mention,.. i lost count
Nicky and the gang don't owe anything , to be honest i would be surprised if itidiots ever gets back to a weekly format.
I don't understand why people want to be shown how to do stuff , you can read it in far more detail on the web.
Everybody learns differently supernova....speaking for myself, I find that watching good video done by knowledgeable folks helps pull things together. You're right, we're owed nothing and having tried to do even a basic video myself, it's quite an undertaking. It's also pretty hard when sometimes you just have to be not the IT guy and have some "screen-free" time.....Perhaps even a basic schedule of even once a month or twice a month would be nice for episodes, whatever is comfortable in their schedule....
Jamie, the Motorola Droid is awesome. I have thoroughly enjoyed mine....
I might get one for Christmas, I have had motorolas before and they are fantastic.
As for the podcast, I wasn't trying to start world war 3 on the forums again, just wondering where the guys were as Nicky said he would do some more episodes last week and I was just wondering if there was a reason to why there were no episodes of any of the podcasts... Obviously if they are busy, then there is absolutely no rush and no pressure, I know they don't owe us or anything... anyway, guides are great but you can't see it in action and you can't follow along at an almost realistic pace...
@Greg
yes but i read comments from people saying a video has helped with their MCSE or whatever, and i actually wonder if they have read the objectives for the exam their taking.
"anyway, guides are great but you can't see it in action and you can't follow along at an almost realistic pace..."
When you follow guides your meant to try it yourself! if your studying a MS exam your meant to have 18months experience on the subject to before you even start! this is where most noobs fail.
In IT a picture or video is worth far less than a piece of text.
"you can't follow along at an almost realistic pace"
rubbish
@ supernova
You're right the exams are intended to measure your knowledge base and skills. Where I find video particularly helpful is the button-pushing side of things....but I am a visual learner. Your learning style may be different than mine but you're right, in the final analysis anyone who wants to pass their exam has to keep in mind the exam objectives. It's particularly helpful to do labs if at all possible to get hands on experience, read as many books as necessary and for some write it out to make it stick. While using just video may not be the be-all and end all to anyone's training needs almost everyone learns best when they both see and hear the subject matter. Engaging as many senses as you can will only contribute the learning process.
For my MCSE I did alot of the above and went to a two week training course so I could focus on what was needed to pass. I have been in IT since about '95 and simply felt that it would be nice to have a piece of paper to evidence that i'd actually learned something over the years.
A mixture of the two normally helps. I follow along with ITidiots in the background and if I get stuck somewhere I google it. Normally I can fix it and move onwards learning at the same time. Having the video there lets you see exactly where to click and (almost every-time) what will come next in almost the same time as the actually virtual machine I am using at the same time does it.
